These are mysterious and weird poems, in the best way. I can't "understand" them but I don't need to, I can feel them, and they feel "true." And they sing. Emmett notes elsewhere that he has studied Prynne, and Silliman, and Olson, and Zukofsky, and as I read these poems it occurs to me that he used what he found in them for his own purposes, "obscure" though that might be: these poems convince me that Emmett sees as clearly (and as obscurely) as any of us ever will.
