When infectious diseases cross country borders they become pandemics. Amongst many; from the prehistoric epidemic about 5000 years ago in China, Black Death between 1346 to 1353, the Spanish Flu between 1918 to 1920, AIDS from 1981, Swine Flu between 2009 to 2010, Ebola between 2014 to 2016, etc.
The World Health Organization added COVID-19 to the list on March 11, 2020, as one of the most significant pandemics that changed human history bringing powerful nations to their knees and killing millions without sparing any age group.
Despite emerging in this modern era with consideration to its aggressiveness and virulence, COVID-19 is still not the deadliest pandemic in history when compared to the plague of Justinian (540-542 AD), HIV/AIDS (1981-to date), the Spanish flu (1918-1920) and the Black Death (1346- 1353 AD).
In modern history, apart from the Spanish flu, the other pandemic that sharply curtailed the economy was COVID-19.
