Description
The development and validation of a bar code based quality inspection procedure for residential construction incorporates the main quality inspection items for residential framing with a bar coded checklist. This checklist can be used with a bar code scanner to record data on inspections for multiple houses in multiple communities. The data collection methods and reports created were compared with manual data collection and data entry methods for acccuracy. The purpose of the study was to develop a procedure that could be used by residential development companies to collect quality inspection data that can be entered into a database for report generation and quality trend analysis grouped by subcontractor, project manager, and community. While the study focuses on framing checklists, the procedure could be adapted to include checklists for any construction operation or process.
