Author P. Thomas Mullins, who spent years as a deputy sheriff in rural Ohio, based his detective thriller All Aspects, on real cases. Set in Vinton County, which has a population of thirteen thousand and only two stoplights, the story features Jed Logan, the only detective that exists at the local sheriff's office. Logan's the sort that stays in the background and makes things happen while elected officials get the credit, but that's how he likes it. Divorced, he lives in a log house and loves guns, fast cars, and women. Although he's goodhearted and humorous, readers will see he does have a dark side that comes out now and then. When the most hated man in the county, Morris Baisden, is found by the lake with his head smashed in, Logan gets a trainee, Sue Louden, to break in on the case. Could the murder have something to do with the abuse of his family, with his preventing the power plant and its needed jobs from coming to the county, with one of the many people he has sued, with his fighting over property lines with his neighbors or some undiscovered reason that hasn't come to light yet? As Logan begins the investigation, he meets Dr. Lynn Masters, who is now head of services at the local mental health center. Although he can't help but find her attractive, her personality makes him want to shoot her in the kneecap-until he discovers facts about her past. As he helps her recover from the trauma, their relationship eventually takes a turn for the better. Meanwhile, as more bodies are found, Logan becomes hell-bent on tracking down the killer, but as the motive for murder looks increasingly murky, he and his trainee are left baffled. However, when Logan finally lines up a suspect, he realizes the only way he can lay a trap is by setting himself up as the next victim. With its witty dialogue, intriguing characters, and fast-paced action, All Aspects makes for a thrilling and suspenseful read, and it's guaranteed readers will be kept on the edge of their seats until the very end.
