Description
Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) is a versatile procedure for the correction of mandibular deformities. The distal segment of the mandible can be repositioned in all planes of space, and the bony interface along the osteotomy results in predictable healing, minimal relapse, and less risk of post-operative arthropathy. It is also the procedure of choice for asymmetric mandibles and cases with anterior open bite due to short ramus height. Various modifications of the technique have been developing to improve the efficiency and predictability of the split, increase bony overlap to improve union, and maintain condylar position, and to decrease neuro-vascular disturbances. This book discusses in detail about the various aspects of the procedure.
