Description

Trenton Bleakspear had died in September 1762, at the age of thirty-two. News of Trent's death was received with disbelief, and the mystery of how his mother and sister had died in that dreadful fire shortly after, made the name Bleakspear that much more notorious, especially since the fire had left Bleakspear Estate a charred scar on the outskirts of Charlotte.

However, Trent's body was never recovered, and about ten years later in 1773, during this uncertain and perilous time of colonial indignation and revolt against taxation without representation, he returned from the grave as the 'ghost of Boston'. In Bleakspear, the reader follows his agonizing quest for revenge and his fight to rebuild Bleakspear Estate to its former glory. However, by that time news of the Bleakspear tragedy had already spread among the populous all the way to Charleston. With all the legal heirs deceased, the family homestead in South Carolina, including the considerable estate, had become somewhat of a frontier, where outcasts from cities like New York or Boston had settled in a crude community of rovers from unknown origins. These nomads gave the scorched homestead itself a wide berth, since even those who were not superstitious could not look upon the burnt edifice without feeling a coldness run along their spines and feeling the hairs at the back of their necks stand up.

This historic fictional story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the American dream, as seen through the eyes of one resolute man, Trenton Bleakspear, whose courage and sacrifice reflect that of the colonists in pursuit of independence from the Crown. It is also a story of love, family, unbreakable bonds, bravery and hope. Bleakspear is a rewarding read about emotionally rich characters, family ties, perseverance, and it highlights the ways men and women rallied together during a tumultuous time in American history.
