Description
BURNTZ (English Edition 12/2021) follows the footsteps of a veteran of the Spanish Peninsular War (1808-1814) now fighting to preserve the sovereignty of king Ferdinand VII in the Provinces of Venezuela.
On the night of April 16th 1818, captain Thomas de Renovales volunteers to lead a picket of royalist infantry, infiltrate the patriot camp and attempt against the life of the Liberator, Simรณn Bolรญvar.
His uncle, field marshal Mariano de Renovales from his exile in London has pledged to serve under Simรณn Bolรญvar and to champion the cause of liberty. His arrival in Venezuela is imminent.
Thomas de Renovales and Mariano de Renovales are the key protagonists in the plot that revolves around the attempt on the life of the Liberator, Simรณn Bolรญvar, which took place in the 'Rincรณn de Los Toros.'
Inseparable since they left their ancestral home in Artzentales, Biscay, they stood out gloriously and survived many hardships in the Spanish Peninsular War.
At the end of the war, they parted ways. Thomas continued in the service of the king of Spain and voluntarily embarked on Morillo's expedition to Venezuela to fight against its independence movement.
His uncle Mariano, on the other hand, sentenced to death in absentia for conspiring against the recently restored monarch, from his political exile in London offered his services as a seasoned and experienced military man to the cause of the Liberator.
The first-person account is of a young man who together with his friends is visiting the Venezuelan Llanos to spend the weekend. A spell transposes him to the past and turns him into a privileged witness of the events that were about to be unleashed by the sergeant major of king's lancers of Venezuela, Thomas de Renovales: Infiltrate the enemy camp to attempt against the life of the Liberator in darkness and treachery.
