At fifty-four, Sam Collins struggles with the untimely deaths of two very close friends. At the same time, he is faced with a decision of early retirement, without the support of a successful wife, whose interest centers around the advancement of her career.

After accepting his company's buy-out offer that allows him to be financially independent, Sam attempts to come up with a plan for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, his marriage starts to fall apart, tempting him to cultivate a new relationship with a younger woman.

A fatal accident ensues as he struggles to put his life into perspective, bringing forth appalling discoveries. He and his new love were shot and seriously wounded after a late dinner. As they seek refuge in Florida, Sam learns, on their return, that a new and greater threat has them in its sights.

Sam discovers that someone from his past is out for revenge for acts that occurred over thirty-five years ago. He also learns that the suspicious deaths of two friends two decades ago are interwoven into his present situation that threatens his life, the life of his friends and the woman he loves.

As he attempts to thwart his enemy, he suffers another near fatal attack and learns that he must confront this mortal threat without the support or protection of any authorities. He realizes that he must take whatever action is required to eliminate this bitter enemy so he can return to rebuilding his life.
