"DARE is filled with the teachings of the intuitive heart and invitations to say yes to the wild wisdom of the soul."
-Vera de Chalambert, author, scholar, spiritual storyteller
The seeds of this book were planted decades ago on a cargo ship bound for Hong Kong, but the story begins long before that, with an adventurous young woman exploring the streets of San Francisco.
In the aftermath of her mother's death, Estelle Toby comes to San Francisco. There she teaches, sells copies of the infamous Berkeley Barb, and plays the role of a hippie for photo-snapping tourists.
It's in San Francisco that Toby (as her friends call her) begins to feel the pull of the East. It's a feeling that slowly grows until she has no choice: she accepts a playfully-offered dare to travel eastward. She has little money and no job-only an innocent trust in the power of new beginnings as she starts a mystical journey of transformation that changes the course of her life.
Dare is both the true story of one woman's personal odyssey and an invitation to begin your own. Each chapter ends with a companion section in which Toby invites you to consider your own journey through reflective questions and interactive exercises. Toby accepted her dare-will you accept yours?
