Emma's Tale is the story of how a naรฏve young woman loses her innocence in a harsh world of high finance and drugs. Emma is struggling in the male dominated world of brokering. The arrogant and self centred men around her dominate her and thwart her ambitions. She suspects it is not a level playing field as some of her transactions inexplicably fail. Following a takeover Emma is made redundant and decides to travel to the far East. Here a drug gang learns of her travel plans and secretes drugs in her luggage. Following a search at the airport she is arrested and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Prison proves traumatic to such a typically English young woman from a sheltered background. She suffers from illness and isolation. Escaping with the help of a friendly prison doctor she is smuggled to Hong Kong. Her journey by junk is difficult and dangerous. She is in the company of desperate men. In Hong Kong Emma is employed in a finance house to help rich business men move their money out of the colony. Soon she realises that her escape from prison had been planned and that she is being used by the drug cartels to help launder money. It becomes apparent that behind most of her troubles is one of her ex-colleagues from back home who is working with the drug cartels. Roger helped organise her escape for which help Emma is expected to repay. The arrogance he displayed in the UK is still present in their new surroundings. She continues to be a victim of the unprincipled man.
