Yet, the machinations of the soul, one's own court of private opinion, may provide the greatest discomfort. Or not. He has been destined to face them all. Reconciling moral dispositions with desires, desires with facts, and facts with fantasies, always provides rich grounds for reflection. And for planning-planning to reduce pain in all its forms and increase a pleasant contentment but a contentment always tinged with a certain frisson.
