Ex-patriot journalist Kendall encounters Donatello, a young count who has been cast in a new film; Lili, a glamorous gallery owner with a menacing companion; and Hannah, a former college classmate on a musical mission. Donatello falls in love with Lili, and eventually her troubled past puts all the friends in peril. When both Lili and Hannah disappear after a dramatic death, Kendall visits Donatello at his Tuscan estate to uncover the truth.
