Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The FLAGS register is the status register in Intel x86 microprocessors that contains the current state of the processor. This register is 16 bits wide. Its successors, the EFLAGS and RFLAGS registers are 32 bits and 64 bits wide, respectively. The wider registers retain compatibility with their smaller predecessors. A microprocessor incorporates most or all of the functions of a computer's central processing unit (CPU) on a single integrated circuit (IC, or microchip). The first microprocessors emerged in the early 1970s and were used for electronic calculators, using binary-coded decimal (BCD) arithmetic on 4-bit words.
