A Western set in 1909 Muskogee. McGrath is a cavalry officer assigned to a fort in Oklahoma Indian Territory. Recruited by Teddy Roosevelt, he rides up Kettle Hill with the Rough Riders and returns with an undiagnosed case of Shell Shock, now known as PTSD. A desperate card player accuses him of cheating and McGrath ejects him from the saloon. He returns with two friends and fires on McGrath. McGrath kills the hapless player and another saloon patron helps kill the other two. The man who helped McGrath is the legendary Bass Reeves, one of the first black US Marshalls west of the Mississippi.
