Haunted Halloween

October nips the air in the little mountain village of Moonfall, California. Orchards brim with fragrant apples, and pumpkins are piled high outside the antique stores and cafes, the restaurants and wineries. The air is redolent with the scents of fall, and oak trees blaze with fiery reds, oranges, and yellows as the town makes ready for its biggest event of the year -- the Halloween Haunt.

Tales of Terror

At Apple Heaven, the sisters of St. Gertrude's Home for Girls -- St. Gruesome's to the locals -- are baking up a storm. Tourists flock to the bakery to buy apple, pumpkin, and mince pies.

But those who grew up in Moonfall still recall the childhood tales they whispered about the mincemeat being made of orphans, about the ghosts roaming the woods, and the gargoyles that seem to watch if anyone dares approach the gates of St. Gertrude's.

Unsolved Mysteries

Sheriff John Lawson's little brother died on the grounds of St. Gruesome's, and fractured memories of that long-ago Halloween tragedy continue to haunt him. Worry about his own son's safety compels him to dig into the dark history of the old orphanage.

Sara Hawthorne is also haunted by the past. She grew up as a ward of St. Gertrude's, and has just returned to teach there -- and to solve the mystery of her old roommate's death.

When she and John Lawson meet, they attract the attention of an age-old evil that puts their lives and those of everyone they love, in mortal danger.
