The first three stories, "Mr. P Sets a Goal," " Mr. P Goes to School," and "Mr. P Runs Away," introduce Mr. P as a young boy with feelings and emotions to which most children can easily relate. The final three stories, "Mr. P Almost Gets Killed," "Mr. P Goes to College," and "Mr. P Learns to Read," present the main character as an adult and allow readers to express concern, pity, and joy for their new friend, Mr. P. By chronicling key events in the life of Mr. P as he struggles with illiteracy, the author hopes young and not-so-young readers will be inspired to believe that with faith, determination, and perseverance, all obstacles-including illiteracy-can be overcome.
