Description

This is a novel set in the landscapes of UK and Malawi (Africa). (The revision 3 is now valid, having only some minor changes made.) A young couple meet in England, and start working in Malawi as missionaries and social workers. Their son Alfie is thrown out of his school and has to make a new life for himself in UK. Alfies son Louis, who Alfie does not know about, is brought up by his mother Kaleigh. The story is brought to a climax solution where all the characters involved are woven together and finally meet. Thanks to Thor, Aidan and Astra (98 years old) everything gets a solution at the end. Here is a review from a good friend in the UK: (She used to work as an english teacher): ==========REVIEW========== I have just finished reading your novel. Congratulations; I really enjoyed the experience and think you are tremendous for even attempting to write so well in a foreign language. When I was teaching English and wanted my students to review a poem, novel or play we used a formula based on the word STYLE . S is subject matter. T is tone Y (or I) is imagery L is language E is effect on the reader. So..... here is a brief review for you!!!! S....sensitive, family, relationships, own experiences, social networking, hobbies, loves, social cultures of different countries. All fabulous in your book. I liked the subject matter; easy to relate to. Loved the fact that you used Greece, Norway etc and even little Ollie in your subject. T....just right. Personal, reminiscent of real life experiences, sensitive, moral, honest and amusing in parts. You blend well. Y.....almost poetic in parts. Love the way you use personification of inanimate objects and give life to trees, objects and emotions. Some lovely moments. L.....obviously difficult when you are Norwegian to write at such length in English but Bravo!!!! I loved the way you paced the language of each chapter. No waiting around for next event; all well linked. The chapter headings were intriguing and always relevant to chapter content. Punctuation excellent. You evoke atmosphere well using five senses to create the feel of a place and setting. I could feel the smoke in my eyes in the jazz club and the heat in places. Good. Only grammatical error, easy to correct. When using adverbs to enhance verbs- how, when, where something happened, it is better to us -ly at the end in mnost cases; he spoke quickLY, loudLY etc. But thn there are anomolies like he drove fast(no LY)! God bless the English language eh?Just a tiny problem in otherwise very readable text. E..... very evocative of one's own memories and how life twists and turns and how many people link together in so many ways in life. I found the whole book charming and very human. The effect on me was good. I liked your own personal view as Thor and Mamma is superb!!! So... memorable . Hope this is not cheeky, but I just wanted to say 'Well Done'.
