With his SUV flipping over the edge of a cliff and turning eight times, he was left surrounded by 'shattered glass, blood and twisted metal'.During recovery, Tommie abstained from taking any pain medication. Instead, he took to painting. He made 25 paintings in these six months. He still continues to paint, mostly drawing upon his travel experiences and a flower series representing life. After Puerto Rico Tommie proceeded to Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, and then Dominican Republic. From here began the European leg starting from London and winding up in Spain. The rest of the journey went through places such as Peru, Mexico, Cuba, Egypt, Thailand, Cambodia, China, Ireland, Italy, Panama, Chile, Ecuador, The Galapagos Islands and Japan.
