Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Ralph Lewanda Wickiser (1910-1998) was an American artist. He is most notable for painting in the styles of both Abstraction and representation, and for synthesizing the two in his own innovative style. Wickiser was born in Greenup, Illinois to Hirk and Lydia Wickiser, into a family of three brothers and four sisters. His middle name, Lewanda, is an American Indian name. Ralph's grandparents were farmers, and his father worked as a Telegraph operator in the evenings and did painting and wallpapering during the day. When he was free from school, Ralph often helped his dad with work. He spent summers caring for his grandfather's apple trees. During his youth, Ralph was also a musician and sang at family and church events. During college, he played guitar in a band. He knew he wanted to be an artist from a very young age. Ralph's earliest known paintings are watercolor landscapes from his second grade class, which showed notable talent for such a young artist.
