It is the 17th century, and accusations of witchcraft are running rampant, especially for those who are less than usual. The same is true for Georges and Petime, two witches of different eras bound by their passion for science and their missing limbs. The stories of both come together as they pursue their passion for science while fending off the church's suspicions. They are taken in by a tunnel-dwelling, secret society that houses knowledge far beyond its time. However, just as they think they've found refuge, they realize that they are not the only ones beneath France.
