In an age of sail and cannon, where airships ply the skies instead of oceans, the Barbarian Kingdoms of Madraus have sent an invasion fleet to Ardmorr as a precursor to their impending war with Hadiq. They hadn't counted on the presence of the newly crowned Queen Esther, however, and all of their carefully laid plans may come crashing down if Esther gets her way.

Esther must now face a new enemy the likes of which she has never faced before--politics! To succeed in defending both the ancestral nation that made her a Queen, and the adopted one she'd always called home, she must face new and old enemies, and learn to navigate Hadiqan, Ardmorran, and Northerner politics to form an alliance and thwart the Barbarian Kingdoms once again. If she fails, all she cares about will burn and the world will descend into yet another dark age.

She looked around frantically for some way out, her heart racing. The door shuddered again. She went quickly to the window and pulled it open. Snow was still falling and blew in through the opening. She climbed up onto the window sill. The cold wind tugged at her nightgown and blew her hair across her face. The door crashed open! Esther looked back at the hulking figure and pushed herself out the window. She plummeted down the side of the ice and snow encrusted wall of the palace....
