Description

One of the main problems faced by industries is the large amount of waste generated during manufacturing processes. In view of this scenario, alternatives for the reuse of industrial waste have become indispensable from both a social and economic perspective. This study will therefore demonstrate the reuse of high-density polyethylene (HDPE)-based waste generated in the metalworking industry. The purpose of this reuse is to manufacture products (jigsaw puzzles) used in recreational activities. To make this product, it was necessary to establish the ideal proportion of reused HDPE and virgin HDPE. The proportions of recycled material were 0%, 20%, 30%, 50% and 100% and the performance of this material was analysed using mechanical tests such as the tensile test. As a result, it was possible to determine the ratio of reused material to virgin material that would guarantee the best service life for the product.
