The most significant developments in the field of infective endocarditis are elucidated in this profound book. Endocarditis is an inflammation of the lining of valves and the heart. It can result from a non-infectious cause as well but when the inflammation is related to an infection, usually bacterial, it is termed as infective endocarditis. It normally involves the formation of a large septic thrombus on one of the cardiac valves. As this thrombus develops, it can lead to valve failure or may fragment forming a septic embolus associated with high mortality in cases where the target of the embolus is the brain, heart or lung. This book provides insights into multi-organ complications related to infective endocarditis including latest developments in molecular mechanisms underlying thrombus formation on the cardiac valve, anti-microbial treatment and surgery.
