An uncomplicated all grain brewing process by an award-winning home brewer. This book covers the all grain beer brewing process of an American Pale Ale where you are going to produce an infusion-based beer. What does that mean? It is a process by which water, at a certain temperature, is mixed with barley to produce wort. This process converts the starches in the barley to fermentable sugars. Going one step further, to get the volume of wort needed to produce five gallons of beer, we need to sparge with water those grains that have been converted to fermentable sugars. When we sparge, we rinse those grains with more water that's been brought to a certain temperature, then collect what is needed for the brew kettle. This may sound complex but, in reality, my process for all grain brewing is quite simplistic. I will explain as we go through the steps.
