Oklahoma City, 2038. The Heartland of America is feeling the first pangs of a warming planet. Devastating crop losses, escalating food prices, and an endless wave of violent storms. Floods, hail, winds and lightning ravage the countryside along with an old killer with a new name.

They call them shredders. A new breed of tornado so powerful and deadly that a quasi-military organization called Storm Strike is assembled to combat them. Armed with Doppler-guided missiles fitted with the army's latest class of thermobaric warheads, they declare an untried and unconventional kind of war.

Marta Astin finds herself on the front lines of that war as commander of a storm cruiser: an armored, all-terrain titan of a vehicle equipped to hunt down and destroy one of nature's most sinister creations.

As she wages battle across the plains of Oklahoma she also finds herself at odds with an elusive and radical band of eco-terrorists who call themselves the Order of the Shining Winds; all while struggling with a debilitating mental illness that threatens her career, her sanity and possibly her very life.

It all ends in a spectacular and explosive confrontation as Marta and her crew fight for survival against the forces of both man and nature.
