Dragons: Sally hopes that most of her troubles have gone away. With the ruthless Coal Company exposed as villains, the assassination attempts have stopped. Master Wentworth, along with Miss Fortuna, are endeavoring to duplicate the magic rings. However, all is not well, because the duplicate rings stubbornly refuse to work. And, if they don't work, the Science Council will withdraw its support. However, a chance inspiration from Sally proves to be effective, and a new set of rings is manufactured, and then successfully tested. But a dangerous situation develops when Master Wentworth and Sally set out to solve the mystery of the alternate world's power source, with the aim of taking it back to their world. They need a special ingredient, but it can be found only in the most dangerous of surroundings. During this expedition, they stumble across an extraordinary sight - one which causes Sally to vow to return, despite all of the dangers. And return she does, overcoming a frightening trial in the process. Then she finds herself immersed in another disturbing dilemma and this one may have serious consequences for the rest of her life.

Unmasked: All seems to be well in the Charles Wentworth household. The transporter rings are being manufactured in bulk and being distributed by the Science Council, leaving Master Wentworth and Miss Fortuna an opportunity to concentrate their efforts on the power stones. Sally continues to visit Rocky, her pet dragon on the alternate world, while also struggling with her burgeoning feelings for Saul, the boy she occasionally meets on her dragon expeditions. However, unknown to all, storm clouds of discontent are gathering. While Master Wentworth finally presents their experiments with the power stones to the Science Council, Sally is confronted by a stalker who hides a sinister purpose. He gives her a surprisingly unwelcome gift, which shows that, once again, the opposition forces are actively seeking to thwart them by any means possible. Back on the alternate world, Saul announces a startling revelation. It's one which will change the structure of everything and maybe force everyone to leave the alternate world.
