Can a drifter escaping his past demons stay in one place long enough to protect a brave widow trying to keep her family alive?
Chase Masters is a drifter who has been mistaken as the notorious bandit, Bloody Bart. Chance brings these two together, and in self defense Chase takes the man's life. When the Dover Gang arrives in the night and mistakes Chase for Bart because of the uncanny resemblance, he decides to assume the man's identity. His plan is to not only save his life, but to try to talk the gang out of robbing another stagecoach and killing more innocent people.
Nessa Pemberton runs a stageline relay station with her young son and maimed brother since the death of her husband two months earlier by the Dover Gang. Each day they fear for their lives, being unprotected and in the middle of nowhere with no place to hide. When a wounded man shows up in her barn, he claims he is a drifter, but her brother says he recognizes him as Bloody Bart.
Nessa needs this man's protection, but isn't sure if she should trust him, help him, or kill him herself. Her head says not to believe him, but his handsome smile has her heart beating faster. Trust and truth isn't easy to come by on the open plains, and this man is testing her resolve. One right decision could save her family's life, but one wrong decision could get them all killed.
