This utopian vision, which was originally written in Latin, is also a biting satire of Europe in the sixteenth century, and it has had a significant impact on utopian fiction even today. The story tells about More's journey to Antwerp as an ambassador for England and King Henry VIII is depicted in the book. When not performing his formal duties, More spends time, talking with his friend Peter Giles about intellectual topics. One day, More witnesses Giles conversing with a bearded man whom he believes to be a ship's captain. Raphael Hythloday, a new individual whom Giles quickly introduces to More, is revealed to be a philosopher and a globetrotter.
