While that is the public perception, residents say they live in the county to enjoy lifes simple pleasuresvisiting friends, watching softball games, or taking drives in the country. It is a unique and beautiful place; rugged, wooded hills in the north gently cascade to rolling, fertile terrain in the south. Washington County was made up of 35 separate communities, now anchored by the incorporated towns of Springfield, the county seat; Willisburg; and Mackville.
